NDIS Neurocapacity Assessments

About

CapacityPlus neuropsychologists and allied health clinicians have extensive experience conducting NDIS-funded assessments. We are experts in understanding cognitive, intellectual, and neurological aspects of disability, and specialise in helping NDIS participants achieve greater independence, economic participation, and social inclusion.

Our neurodevelopmental evaluations and specially tailored neuropsychology assessments explore how your brain functions and identify your cognitive strengths and support needs in the context of the NDIS. We work with participants of all ages and abilities—including children, adolescents, adults, and older adults—to provide assessment and evidence that supports your NDIS planning and goals.

Why Choose CapacityPlus for a NDIS Assessment

A neuropsychology assessment or neurodevelopmental evaluation with CapacityPlus can help you:

  • Understand your cognitive, intellectual, and neurological profile — assess thinking skills including memory, attention, processing speed, executive functioning, learning abilities, and social-communication skills to identify your strengths and areas of support need
  • Inform your NDIS plan goals and supports — provide evidence-based recommendations for specific NDIS funding and tailored supports, including prior to a scheduled plan review
  • Ensure accurate disability documentation — clarify your primary and secondary disabilities and impairment categories (intellectual, cognitive, neurological, sensory, physical, or psychosocial) on your NDIS plan, which is essential for accessing appropriate supports
  • Support your day-to-day needs — provide evidence-based strategies and recommendations for families, schools, workplaces, and support workers to implement in daily environments
  • Access plan reviews and appeals — provide supporting evidence for unscheduled plan reviews, including Change of Situation requests for health and safety risks, crisis funding, or significant changes in support needs. Our assessments also assist with evidence for Administrative Review Tribunal (ART) hearings
  • Support housing and accommodation decisions — provide evidence to support applications for Supported Independent Living (SIL) and Specialist Disability Accommodation (SDA)
  • Coordinate with other support systems — provide supporting evidence to access complementary non-NDIS services (such as Disability Support Pension, school-based disability support, or carer’s allowance) that improve your overall independence and reduce reliance on NDIS-funded supports

Frequently Asked Questions

What's included in an NDIS Neurocapacity Assessment?

Assessments typically take 2–4 hours and involve discussion and standardised activities designed to assess your thinking skills. You’ll work through paper and pen tasks, numbers, words, stories, and drawings. After your assessment, we compile all information into a comprehensive report that explains your results. Your report includes what the results mean, your diagnosis or outcome (if applicable), how this affects your daily functioning, and evidence-based recommendations to support your NDIS goals. You’ll receive either a written report or a feedback session to discuss your results in detail.

How should I prepare for my NDIS assessment?

On the day of your assessment, take any medications as usual and wear your regular glasses or hearing aids if needed. We recommend arriving 10–15 minutes early and getting a good night’s sleep beforehand. You’re welcome to bring a support person—a family member, carer, or friend—if you’d like.

Where are assessments held?

We offer face-to-face assessments at our offices in Melbourne and Warrnambool, with outreach services available in Geelong and regional Victoria. We also offer video telehealth appointments when appropriate if you prefer to attend online. Our team can discuss the best option for your situation and individual needs.

What if I'm concerned about engaging in an assessment?

Our neuropsychologists are experts in supporting people of all ages and abilities through the assessment process. If you have concerns, we can support you by splitting your assessment over multiple days or weeks, providing additional breaks, or adapting activities to suit your needs. We’ll work with you to ensure you have the best experience possible.

How long does it take to receive my results?

It typically takes 4–6 weeks from your assessment to receive your written report. This allows our neuropsychologist to review all available information carefully, conduct any necessary follow-up conversations with family members, doctors, or other healthcare providers, and develop recommendations tailored to your unique situation and NDIS goals. If you need your report sooner, let us know as soon as possible and we’ll do our best to accommodate an urgent timeline.

How is my NDIS Neurocapacity Assessment funded?

CapacityPlus neuropsychology assessments for NDIS participants are typically funded under the Capacity Building budget category, specifically the Improved Daily Living line items (15_054_0128_1_3 or 15_001_0118_1_3). These line items are for assessment services delivered by psychologists.

CapacityPlus is not a registered NDIS provider, so your NDIS funding will need to be Plan-Managed or Self-Managed.
